Inspired by the words of a young woman I know in northern Uganda who was born into the Lord’s Resistance Army. Here are some of her words:

Poem title: “Give the children peace”

Give the children freedom

Give the children freedom

Give the children peace, give the children liberty

Give the children peace, give the children liberty

Why make children suffer in this world

Why make children suffer in this world

When I was going to Kampala I saw the children moving on the streets, I saw them crying, I saw them weep.

Why make children suffer in this world!

Book title: “The abduction of my mother in captivity made me who I am now”

Am ____ ____ born in 1997 from a place called Lecito in Sudan; one of the children born of war. My mum was abducted in 1993 from a place called Purong when she was 12 years old, staying with her elder sister. Her first child passed away since she was young and not matured enough to be a mother. Immediately after that, she conceived and gave birth to the second child in 1997. I was named after my paternal grandfather [for the] reason being my father was in need of a baby boy. Unfortunately, my mother bore a baby girl. There was misunderstanding by them until the issue reached my grandfather from Juba whereby he gave me the name “___” (misbehaving of my father) and “___” which was his mother’s name. After that, everything was ok between my parents. I was loved by both of them, which made them care for me. Am of value to the world because God needs me. That’s why I managed to survive. Under all the difficult situations, I am still alive.

This is to all in the world who ever will read this book must change. Try to accept and appreciate anything given to you by God. He is the provider. Please parents appreciate what you’ve seen. Lucky are those who are alive, many wise for continued life but God called them. Give to the needy if you have, you don’t know what may come tomorrow. May God richly bless the heart that gives, cares, comforts, loves, encourages, supports, fights against stigma, segregation, rejection, blame as they continue doing the world.
