provocative knowledge (SOLD)
48″ x 48″ x 1.5″ acrylic paint on wood.
In 1978, at the height of the second wave of feminism, queer poet/scholar Audre Lorde posited that empowered women are dangerous because they dare to challenge systems of oppression.
Provocatively, she pointed to a rarely acknowledge source of feminine power – the erotic – as a life force and as knowledge that can be reclaimed and used to create new social possibilities: “Recognizing the power of the erotic within our lives can give us the energy to pursue genuine change within our world.”
