Hypocrisy

Thankfully, someone asked me about the text in this painting, which forced me to think through this painting with some clarity. Here is what I wrote:

The text is from a narrative of an enslaved person in the 18th century. The text is about the hypocrisy inherent in the assumptions supporting white/western supremacy. In this I see the deep lineage of current (neo)colonial assumptions. These are the things I think of when I question my role as a white Western researcher in the lives of the people I know in northern Uganda.
